2008
- PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Welcome to Park Avenue
It
is my great pleasure to welcome to Park Avenue all Railway Union
members and their families and guests, all visiting teams and
their supporters, match day officials and all our colleagues in
sport. We in Railway Union pride ourselves on our
hospitality and we hope that you leave us having received a warm
welcome, having made new friends and renewed old acquaintances.
To
all players on all our teams, particularly those joining Railway
Union in 2008, I wish them well for an enjoyable and successful
season. I am particularly pleased that Railway Union will be
fielding Taverners’ and Women’s teams again
after a lapse of many years.
I
would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved
in the running of our teams, our vice presidents, our coaches,
our tea servers, our volunteers and all those who have taken on
various roles within the Club, both on and off our Committee. I
also thank our generous sponsors and the advertisers and
photographers who have contributed to our Yearbook.
I am
particularly grateful to Maurice Whelan who has guided the Club
so well over the last few years as President and Chairperson and
continues to help and support our Committee. In 2007, Maurice
was instrumental in our Club embarking on a programme of work
that involved the renovation and maintenance of our playing
surfaces as they had fallen below acceptable standards and
threatened the future viability of our Club to play at senior
level.
I
would like to thank all who worked so hard last autumn to carry
out vital grounds maintenance and lay two new ‘pitches’ which we
hope to use later this season. I am pleased to report that we
have made application for funding under the Sports Capital
Programme in order to continue this work. I would ask all
members and friends of Railway Union to support the various
functions and social activities that will be held throughout the
season. I am proud to be President of the Club and confident
that with your support we will all have an enjoyable and
successful 2008 season both on and off the field.
Yours in Sport,
David Carroll
